Call for Scores

The Calliope Flute and Piano Duo is looking for new works for our upcoming project, United. Calliope specializes in ground-breaking contemporary music. The Calliope Duo, comprised of Elizabeth McNutt, flute and Shannon Wettstein, piano, has been performing together for nearly 20 years. We are virtuosic, innovative performers who are committed to performing cutting edge classical music. We are interested in stylistic diversity; our current repertoire includes works by Franco Donatoni, Brian Ferneyhough, Beat Furrer, Ashley Fure, David Lang, as well as many up and coming composers.

In celebration of 20 years of fulfilling performance together, and solidarity with those suffering from family separations and detainment at the United State border, Calliope is seeking 1-3 minute works for flute and piano in some way inspired by Sergio Ortega’s el pueblos unidos

Criterea:

• We see works in which flute and piano are equal partners. i.e. We avoid flute solos with piano accompaniment.
• Composers may submit a piece of any aesthetic. Scores with graphic notation or improvisation are welcome.
• At this point we are not considering works with other instruments or voice (but we are willing to vocalize and play a little auxiliary percussion.)
• C flute, piccolo, and alto flute are all acceptable.
• We are willing to consider pieces with electronics or amplification, if a technological rider is included.
• Submit a .pdf of a complete score, a program note, and a short composer bio of no more than 200 words.
• Deadline for submissions is August 1, 2019.
• Composers of any pieces selected to be included on Calliope’s United Tour will be notified by October 1, 2019.
• Pieces not included on the United Tour may be selected for other performances outside the parameters of this tour.
